Music Education at Coventry Academy
At Coventry AP Academy, we are proud to collaborate with Coventry Music and Music Engagement Officer Joe Cook to deliver dynamic, learner-led music education sessions. Designed with young people in mind, these sessions focus on Music Production and the use of music technology, fostering creativity, self-expression, and original composition.
These sessions have been running for several years now, and our students regularly create their own beats, backing tracks, and lyrics, recording and performing their work in a supportive and inspiring environment.
Collaboration is at the heart of these sessions, encouraging students to remix each other's tracks, write to one another's beats, and engage in intergenerational creative partnerships.
The programme’s impact goes beyond the classroom. Students have showcased their talent at high-profile events like the Godiva Festival and collaborated with leading arts and culture organisations, including The Belgrade Theatre, Voice 21 Oracy, and Coventry UK City of Culture 2021.
Recently, Coventry Academy even hosted superstar Ed Sheeran at our music studio as part of the launch of his groundbreaking new initiative, The Ed Sheeran Foundation. The foundation, dedicated to enhancing music education across the UK, aims to support thousands of children by providing access to instruments, mentorship, and performance opportunities.
Partnering with Coventry Academy and Coventry Music on studio space, the foundation is donating to help develop the academy’s facilities.
Through music, we empower our learners to discover their voices, build confidence, and connect with their communities.
